Burns Bog in National Geographic

Some time ago, in response to an editor's note about concern for European bogs, I dashed off a letter to National Geographic, telling them of the plight of Burns Bog, threatened by plans for a 4-lane highway, serving the greed of a government only interested in more and more goods from Asia. It has been printed in the January issue and a reader from Seattle picked up the ball and wrote to NG, encouraging the Society to do an indepth article on the bog and raise awareness of this unique place. Please take the time to write ngsforum@nationalgeographic.com and support the request. Environment Canada has used its strongest language yet in commenting on the effects of SFPR on the bog. Let's make sure we keep it in the limelight. Further info on Burns Bog at www.burnsbog.org. The issue of the South Fraser Perimeter Road is posted and links to other websites are provided.

The Livable Blog

Our goal as the Livable Region Coalition (LRC) is to provide a voice for those who believe that efficient and sustainable transportation is a cornerstone for the future of the Lower Mainland. We believe that through creating attractive transportation choices, encouraging urban density, and preserving green space and agricultural land, we can make our communities better places to live and grow.

We believe that the provincial government's strategy to pursue excessive development through the Gateway project is detrimental to the well-being of Greater Vancouver. The Gateway project's stated goals of reducing pollution and congestion will not materialize. Evidence for this comes from many sources. Instead, we advocate real solutions that will actually work and will be less expensive.
