Give Us Transit Metropolis!

For the same amount of money that Gordon Campbell wants to spend on the super-sized Port Mann Bridge, we could have a "light rail metropolis". This proposal, developed by Patrick Condon and Kari Dow at UBC, was shared with Livable Region Coalition members back in February and is now featured in The Tyee, see the excellent story here.

Surrey Mayor Diane Watts has been demanding more transit and light rail for her community, and the public wants the same- preferred over freeways.

Now, this is something wave a banner about! Please Join us for the April 11 Hwy 1 Day of Action- for a transit metropolis! Send an email to cleanairradio@gmail.com for details and to get involved.

The Livable Blog

Our goal as the Livable Region Coalition (LRC) is to provide a voice for those who believe that efficient and sustainable transportation is a cornerstone for the future of the Lower Mainland. We believe that through creating attractive transportation choices, encouraging urban density, and preserving green space and agricultural land, we can make our communities better places to live and grow.

We believe that the provincial government's strategy to pursue excessive development through the Gateway project is detrimental to the well-being of Greater Vancouver. The Gateway project's stated goals of reducing pollution and congestion will not materialize. Evidence for this comes from many sources. Instead, we advocate real solutions that will actually work and will be less expensive.
