City of Burnaby Report on Port Mann/ Highway 1 Project

"This report updates Council on the Province’s plans to widen Highway 1 and twin the Port Mann
Bridge. This is a project that Council has twice expressed opposition to, most recently on 2006
June 26. The freeway concept is largely unchanged since then. In Burnaby, it includes widening
the highway to eight lanes in most sections, and ten lanes in the Grandview / Willingdon area,
with reconstruction of all the interchanges.
On 2006 June 26, Council adopted a series of primary motions related to the project. In addition
to the above-stated opposition, these included a desire for a balanced analysis of a broader range
of alternatives, public consultation regarding that analysis, and consideration of induced land use
and traffic arising from the project. These requests have not been acted on by the Province."

EndTheHeat.org

"EndTheHeat.org is an organization comprised of individuals who are concerned for the Earth and the creatures that reside on it. This organization was formed January of 2007 when An Inconvenient truth was watched. We knew something must be done. A New years resolution was made. That resolution was "I want to inform the public and other like-minded environmentalists, of the causes, effects, events and solutions surrounding the Earth’s Global Warming Problem." This website was built by this individual. We here at EndTheHeat.org believe in Margaret Mead's famous quote “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has.” So here we are a small group of thoughtful committed citizens, let's see what we can do!"

Slug-Lines

"Slugging is a term used to describe a unique form of commuting found in the Washington, DC area sometimes referred to as "Instant Carpooling" or "Casual Carpooling".   It's unique because people commuting into the city stop to pickup other passengers even though they are total strangers! However, slugging is a very organized system with its own set of rules, proper etiquette, and specific pickup and drop-off."
